I'm reminded today how kind words can lift a spirit and encourage a soul! As a homeschool mom, it's so easy for me to constantly be coaching (correcting) instead of finding the positive words. Well, I received some very sweet, encouraging words from a customer today and I'm reminded what a difference a positive thought can make:

"Oh my GOODness!!!!!!!!! I love them. They are on my mantle. Myself, hubby and kiddos LOVE it. I ordered another wooden item from a different shop and am KICKING myself. Yours is SO lovely.... A masterpiece. Wish that I had bought your bLESSED blocks too... oh well the family one from******* is fine, but not like yours. Be proud, it is lovely and I am overwhelmed at the beauty, quality and stunning-ness of the piece.

So it was the Saturday night before Easter and all through the house, not a kiddo was stirring......but mommy was scurrying frantically to find something to fill the Easter baskets! Then I remembered: "Hey, didn't I buy some cute little white shirts on sale to dress up some time?" Yep, found them in my stash, now what to do to dress them up? I've heard that you could use the trusty Cricut to cut out applique..............and I heard correctly! So easy peasy and cute! Just make sure that you have a really sticky mat and your Heat and Bond already ironed to your fabric. Take a look at how these cute little purse appliques turned out:

Grow - a simple word but yet, for me, inspires much more meaning. Yes, the word grow can be the simple reminder of gardening, watching new seedlings take shape. But for me, "grow" challenges me to ground my roots deep where I've been planted and stretch to what God has intended me to be. Am I still learning? Am I striving to sand off those rough edges? Am I maturing into the creation I was intended?

It's not that I want to change into someone I'm not....although I have to admit through my life there have been times when I wished I was more, had a gift I don't possess, etc. But I've come to realize something. We don't look at an unripe fruit or green apple and get angry with it, or want it to change into another kind of fruit. We accept it for what it is and the stage it is in. We know that it is in a process and will one day become the beautiful, mature, delicious fruit it was meant to be.

You see, I believe that is the process each one of us is in. Those immature characteristics in us or our children (that seem so irritating at times), are just the green process of a creation that, at its full maturity, will make us the beautiful, unique creation we were intended to be. So today, I hope you can accept the wonderful creation that you are, yet reach, stretch and GROW into the beautiful, mature creation you were intended to be.

Baby Girl Birth Announcement Blocks and Playing Around With Hand-Crocheted Flowers

Blog land is just the tops for sparking creativity - that is planting creative seeds. I came upon a tutorial to crochet these fun little flowers at one of my FAVORITE blogs to visit: Little Birdie Secrets:

I haven't crocheted in years - I mean like 25 years..... but these were easy, peasy! Of course, after seeing the cute cards that Little Birdie Secrets made with her mini flowers, my wheels started spinning. Yes, they would be perfect for my new Baby girl announcement blocks:

Don't they just add that little spark? I love them!

Then I got to thinking......hey these would be great to interchange on little girl shoes! Just sew a bottom to the top of the shoe and then you can interchange the flower to match their outfit - TOO FUN!

They even look cute on a little girl's regular old sneaker!

I've tried something new with "Tweet" - a little mixed media. The birds are cut from scrapbook paper and then I've painted on the shadows and details. This gives it more dimension.

Not Satisfied With Any Old Vinyl Sign

When I was asked by a customer to make a unique sign for her new home, you know I jumped at the chance! It's so fun to open that creative door and see what can happen. Here is what I came up with to "spruce" up a regular vinyl sign to match her primitive/country decor:

First, I added scrapbook paper to a distressed drawer front.

Then vinyl was added but I dressed it up with some fun bling!

Much better than a plain old vinyl sign don't you think?

Good morning everyone! It's time to plant some creative seeds! I'm a little late getting this up as we went to the Rock and Worship Road tour last night and watched Jars fo Clay and Mercy Me. They were awesome, some of the other bands I could of done without! LOL! I must be getting old....I needed earplugs and I had to stare at the floor so I didn't have a seizure from those crazy flashing lights! However, Mercy Me didn't fail us, they put on an awesome show with amazing worship.

So now on to a high "sweet" highlight from last week's party. Sweetened by Kagi makes these amazing cakes:

Fun Custom Order - Matching Memory Album & Hair Bow Holder

I just love it when customers ask for something I haven't done yet, it just gets my creative juices flowing! A customer ordered a Custom Girls Name Set to match this bedding set:

And she asked me to doing a matching memory album with it:

It has an acrylic cover.

With lots of coordinating pages

And pockets with tags for extra photos and memories

Then this sweet customer really got my creative juices flowing. She asked for a bow holder for the new little girl's first bows and barrettes:

You just clip the barrettes & bows to the ribbon. How fun is that?

Imposter (To Put It Politely)

To all my sweet customers and friends:

I want you all to be aware that another has stolen my photos from my website and my etsy site and is pretending that they are her work! (yikes!) My actual photos, with my actual work, in my actual house, are on her facebook and she is selling them to unsuspecting people as her work!!! Unfortunately for them, they are receiving products that look nothing like the pictures. I found out about this "thief and imposter" from one of those sweet customers who were unsuspectingly ripped off. She said when she received the product it looked nothing like the product and the only place she would put it would be the garbage. Ugh!

The gal's name is Shenan Stone-Thorn. She has been selling on facebook as Kyanahs-bowtique although it is currently "unavailable" after my e-mail to her. She is still advertising for people to e-mail her to place orders. She also sells MaryKay on facebook. So congratulations "Kyanahs-bowtique" for your "Hall of Shame" award.

Movie Themed Birthday Slumber Party for a Sweet 10 Year Old

Do you need a fun idea for a little girl's birthday party? My sweet Addie Mae turned 10 this month. She is all about American Girls and movies, so this is what we came up with for her birthday party: a movie themed slumber party

When the guests (movie stars) arrived, they were greeted with a red carpet up the stairs and their names on stars.... a walk of fame if you will. On the front door, was a "Welcome to the Premier of Addie's 10th Birthday" poster

Inside the guests were greeted with Hollywood sunglasses and an autograph book.

Of course, the movie stars sipped sparkling cider "champaigne" as part of the premier:

The "theater" included a movie behind curtains, a poster showing the movies being featured (American Girl of course), and a concession stand. This was the girls' favorite part! They earned tickets by playing various games, including "Pass the Popcorn" where they passed a piece of popcorn made from construction paper from one friend to the next on a straw in their mouth.

The tickets they earned were then used to purchase various concessions at the concession stand including movie candy, popcorn, pop and nachos. There were also "free" popcorn themed cupcakes (the popcorn is actually marshmallows).

As a craft, and to go along with the slumber party theme, the girls each decorated their own pillow case with permanent marker. The girls also "autographed" each other's pillowcases. The girls also used their autograph books to tell each girl what they liked about her.

As a party favor, I made each girl a flower clip for their hair to add to the glamour. All their party goodies were served up in an offical movie theater popcorn bag:

This turned out to be such a fun party. The girls had a great time!

Ladybug - Butterfly Kisses and Ladybug Hugs

Do you have any Ladybugs in your home? I do! I have two little girl ladybugs that definitely give the best ladybug hugs. However, we also found a real, live ladybug in our house today! I can't believe it - February in Eastern Oregon is cold and snowy! What a little fighter! We are keeping her around, the girls say she is a keeper! Wishing you a happy week with lots of ladybug hugs!

I long to simplify, maybe then my house would always be organized, I would always have time to do what I wanted.....very funny huh? I think that part of raising kiddos, especially when we live in our house 24-7 with homeschooling, is accepting that there is always going to be a mess somewhere in the house! It amazes me that all the technology out there to make our lives eaiser, simpler if you will, has a tendency to draw us away of what's truly important, or it just helps us heap more onto our already overloaded lives! Crazy isn't it?

So, I'm going to get off my technology (laptop) and go read a good book with my kiddos, how is that for simplifying? =0)

Fun Recent Customized Orders

One of the funnest parts of my business is getting to be creative. Customizing orders for my customers has made me stretch and create in ways I probably wouldn't have otherwise. One of my first customized orders I shared HERE was a "Peach on a Windowsill" which really stretched me creatively.

Do You Have a Special Grandma?

Are you blessed enough to still have a special grandma in your life? My sweet grandmothers passed away when I was a child. I so wish I could have known them as an adult. I would have loved to cherish the stories of old. One of my grandmothers immigrated from Hungary when she was a child. She had a wonderful Hungarian accent and was the Cookie Grandma! She was under 5 feet tall but a strong, determined woman who raised her 10 children on a dry wheat ranch on her own after her husband was killed by lightening. My other grandmother was a beautiful lady who battled the effects of uncontrolled diabetes most of her adult life. She lived with us for a time while my mother cared for her. She had eyes that twinkled and a smile that was contagious. I loved to eat coddled eggs with her. Have you ever eaten those - YUM! In honor of those special grandmothers still with us and those held dear in our memories:

Sisters - Friends Who Listen with Their Hearts

Have you been blessed with a sister? I truly have been blessed - blessed with three sisters. They were the first three born of our family of 7, I was the last. They were mostly out of the house by the time I was old enough to remember. However, I have found as an adult that each one is quite the special soul and the years between don't seem to matter. What matters is that they do listen with their hearts. They love with a love that only sisters could understand. I don't know if they ever read this blog, but if they do, I love you! Winter Welcome Signs on Old Window Screens

I had so much fun doing the Harvest Blessings Window Screen sign that I had to make some fun winter ones. Take a look at how they turned out - they were so much fun to do! I love how you can still see through the screen:

This guy is painted on the neatest old window - original paint and great corner metal pieces!

Snow Buddies - More Fun with Vintage Items

Well winter has officially hit my house. It was 7 degrees this a.m.! Ugh - it's supposed to get below zero tonight! Well, it may be cold outside, but this little guy I've been working on warms my heart! This little Snow Buddy is a hand sculpted & painted snowman who is sporting a vintage kitchen measuring cup for a hat:

He's quite the dapper fellow! He is sitting on a vintage tin cup.

His hat has a snowman and cardinal bird painted on it:

Wow - November is here...can't believe it....it's the "thankful" month right? So, what are you thankful for? Here are a few things that are on my heart today that I am thankful for:

1) Children playing in the leaves (they couldn't resist even though it was dark!):

2) Laughter

3) The smell of home made cookies

4) Time - time with my children and husband, another moment to grasp

5) Listening to my children sing and praise the Lord in church

6) Snuggling on the "Big Bed" (not that big - only a queen) with the whole family - 5 of us and dog!

7) The sound of rain

8) The view of snow capped mountains

9) Golden autumn leaves outside my window

10) My health and the health of my loved ones

11) And, I'm thankful that I have had lessons in life that have taught me how fleeting and precious my life and the lives of others are.

Whether I want to admit it or not, winter is sending its kisses (snow) my way shortly....it has already been trying! Doesn't "winter kisses" sound more enticing than snow? LOL! By the end of winter, my family is definitely ready for it to be over, but there is always a certain excitement in the air when winter sends its first kisses to our home! Since we homeschool, I have the luxury to stop what we are doing and let the kids go enjoy those winter kisses. So, we are patiently waiting (some of us impatiently) for the first winter kisses:

Angel To Watch Over You - Vintage Gas Can Winter Centerpiece

Oh my goodness! I have been having so much fun taking vintage items and turning them into something fun! Here is my latest creation. It's an old gas can that has been painted with a guardian angel who is watching over a sweet prim farmhouse and farm.

A sleigh and snowman keep the farmhouse company:

Making creations for the holiday season has me singing little tunes over and over and over again in my head! I bet you can guess what I've been singing as I've been working on this one:

"Frosty" features a hand painted snowman with a cute little bird sitting on his carrot nose. Rusty snowflakes as well as snowflake buttons add to the fun.

Then Colette from My Computer is My Canvas came up with the MOST CREATIVE WAY to get her kiddos to do chores. It is a mail system where the kids mail their chore cards back to her when they are done to receive credit...so much fun and it works. Better yet, she is sharing the FREE DOWNLOAD with us!

Collette also uses this fun Brownie point system with her kiddos to catch them in acts of kindness. They collect their "brownie points" in their mailbox throughout the week and then get to exchange them for a special privileges. So very creative and fun!

As I've mentioned before, I love repurposing old stuff. Some might consider it "junk" but I think that old stuff has so much character! Take this old sewing machine drawer - dress it up with some fun fall designs, fill it with leaves, rusty star sprigs and homemade salt dough bowl fillers - and POOF - a great centerpiece for your table!

What To Do With a Rather Large Bun Foot - Make a Primitive Pumpkin!

One of my favorite persons to buy junk from is a guy named John. He travels back to Kansas to his farm each year and brings a trailer load of junk (treasures) tied every which way and that, to a local flea market. My friend and I have a date every year to go visit John and hunt for treasures. Well, I had an opportunity to visit John's home on the other side of the state recently. He has barns full of these treasures! I love to find junk and turn it into something cool....like the old window screens I posted about here.

Anyway, on part of my treasure hunt, John challenged me to come up with a use for these:

It is an old oak bun foot made for the bottom of furniture. This one is about the size of a softball.

The immediate thing that came to mind (of course) was a pumpkin! So here is what I came up with. After painting the primitive scene, I attached some rusty leaf and wire garland along with a rustic nametag.

So, this is what I came up with. Can you think of any creative ways to use these old bun feet?

When All Else Fails....or at least when the freezer fails...Make Huckleberry Jam!

Have you ever had one of the days, where you have great plans to get certain projects done, and then..........something happens, like your deep freeze quits working? ARGH!!! Well that was my day today! I had a list of projects that needed to be completed, and of course, I had two kiddos with soccer games and one at a Teen Bible Quizzing meet. I went downstairs and, there trickling all over the floor was berry juice! Oh joy!!!

Each summer, our family has the tradition of going out in the mountains to pick huckleberries. If you have ever done that, you know it takes quite a bit of work because the little buggers are....well.... little! However, my family just LOVES to go huckleberry picking and they talk about it for months before and months after. I always freeze the berries to save for later.....well, I guess today was later! If you have never tried huckleberries, they are like a little wild blueberry with a much stronger punch! People pay up to $40/gallon for them (yikes). But, maybe it's worth it - look at the crazed look and purple tongue you get when you've got huckleberry fever:

And it also causes one to sneak around mischievously and steal berries:

Here is a great recipe for Huckleberry Jam. My sister shared it with me some years ago and it has never failed me yet!

Huckleberry Jam

4 cups huckleberries
1 cup apple juice
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 box fruit pectin
4 1/2 cups sugar

Mash huckleberries and combine in a kettle with apple juice, lemon juice and pectin. Bring to a rolling boil, over moderate-high heat, stirring constantly. Add sugar at once, and continue to stir until mixture boils again. Allow to boil hard for one minute. Remove from heat, skim off foam and ladle into hot sterilized jars. Process in hot water bath following directions on package. Makes 7-8 half pints.

Wow this week has flown by!!! I am really feeling that saying: "They hurrier I go, the behinder I get!" I can't believe it's already another week almost over. Before I blink, it will be time for Christmas! Ok, enough whining huh? It's time to plant some creative seeds girls!

Harvest Blessings - Getting Personal

Blessing....a gift bestowed by God. Have you ever noticed that some of the trials in our lives, those that are so hard at the time, so difficult to understand, become a beautiful blessing in the end? I was told once, that we see only one large looming, mountain in front of us, but God sees from a different perspective. He sees the entire mountain range, the valleys....and the peaks.....the entire story of the journey we are on. He sees what we must go through to get where we need to go....to become the mature soul that He has created us to be.

I hang on to the fact, that HE sees us. He knows where we are in our journey. I have come to the place in my journey where I realize I won't know the answers to some hard questions...why we lose certain loved ones too soon, why children get sick... I have to trust that He sees me, and knows the journey that I am on, and what I must go through to become the blessing He wants me to be.

Although I won't know the answer at this point to some of those hard questions, God has chosen to let me see glimpses of His plan for me, enough to reassure me that nothing happens by coincidence. He has also turned some of the biggest heartaches in my life into the biggest, unexpected blessing. I have shared a little of the story of my daughter before, a true blessing in disguise in my life, who has changed me more deeply than I can express.

When I see the word blessing, it touches places in my soul that I would have never understood before. It means the small hand in mine, the chance for another day, the laughter and life I hear in my children around me, the steady breathing of my husband as he sleeps beside me at night. Yes, some of these seem insignificant at first glance, but when we stop and think about it, life is such a fragile breath. These seemingly insignificant moments, each one of them, are HUGE gifts from our Creator. I guess many of us never realize that until they are not there anymore.....I don't want that to be me. I don't want to be lulled to sleep, taking these amazing blessings for granted.

So, I'm shaking myself awake again, to feel the height, breadth and depth of those blessings that have been placed in my life. And maybe....just maybe.....a reminder has been given to someone out there to wake from slumber, to see those amazing everyday blessings in their life.

For me, fall also brings the thought of little kiddos dressed up in silly costumes begging for candy. When thinking about this time of year, I couldn't resist making a few things for Halloween. Autumn - The Year's Last, Loveliest Smile

Ok, no matter what my calendar says, I've succumbed to the fact that fall is officially here in my part of the country. I'm covering the tomatoes each night in hopes that I will actually get some ripe tomatoes....... So, since fall is officially here, I guess I'd better embrace it. I hope this post finds all of you enjoying your Labor Day Weekend!

I wanted to share a few items that I have been working on for the "Halloween Celebration" with my Etsy Team - Old Farm House Gathering. We will be launching almost a hundred new Halloween items, tomorrow September 6th, so come take a look at all the wonderful Halloween creations by some very talented artists. Simply go to Etsy, type in HCOFG and it will bring up the Halloween Celebration creations. We will be adding items all day today, so be sure to check back for the latest listings.

The photo above is one of the items that I will be featuring for the Celebration. "Trick or Treat" features some whimsical embellishments including jack-o-latern buttons, pokadot ribbon, star buttons and googly eyes.

Another item I am featuring are the latest in my line of salt dough ornament bowl fillers: Halloween Mix. These whimsical, primitive salt dough ornaments have been scented with cinnamon and nutmeg. They look great around candles, in an old bowl or container, or in any table centerpiece you can think of.
